  • Some Dim Sum

    Weekend Part 2

    ================================

They played golf. They had fun. We did not. I had to do my weekend chores. She had to go to work. Not fair.

    Dim Sum (http://www.jockey2go.com).

Sure enough, it made us happy!!

Tidbits: According to wikipedia, DIM SUM is a Chinese cuisine that has a wide range of light dishes served alongside Chinese tea. It means a “bit of heart”.

A bit of heart…yeah, right….we had a  bit of EVERYTHING!!

    Dig in!!

Well, Wednesday was the opening day of the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.  We waited until Saturday. Everyone’s busy during weekdays.

It wasn’t a great movie. It was good. I thought the first one is still better. It could have been a little more intellectual, and less cheesy. It’s simply wasn’t as much fun as the first one.

We went to see the movie to have a good time and catch up on things. We enjoyed it and we had fun! As usual we, stuffed ourselves with nachos, popcorn and hotdogs.

Evening snack at the pancake house! (http://www.ihop.com/)

Action movies make them hungry. Joy is eating an OPTIMUS PRIME sundae! LOL!

The King of Pop died at the age of 50.

I heard about the news while driving home yesterday afternoon. It was so unreal! It did not sync in right away. I thought it was just a joke or something. Until the radio stations started playing Michael Jackson’s music.  That’s when I realized, “it’s not ajoke” after all.

This is the type of music I grew up with . It feels like part of my childhood was taken away.  *how dramatic*…..No, seriously, it feels like that though.

Well, of course, I had to call a BFF to break the news. The other one was busy buying stuff for her incoming weekend outdoor adventure. So, I settled for the other one……*kidding*.  She did not pick up the phone.   *Grrrrrr*………So, I left a message……pretending that I was talking to her. I talked and talked,  non-stop like an idiot. Until I realized, oh geez!…..she wasn’t on the other line.   LOL!

Kidding aside, it was shocking. His music will live forever.

Interestingly enough, I found out that these celebrities also died on the 25th.  Any thoughts on these?

    Father’s Day

    June 25, 2009

It’s Father’s Day. My friends’ families and mine wanted to eat out together, but due to different schedules, we were not able to do so.

And, this is how we honored my husband on this special day – church and then lunch at Pappadeaux (www.pappadeaux.com)!

    ======================

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen offers Cajun style dishes. My favorite is sauted crab fingers. They serve it with dirty rice that has a little kick to it.

     Their menu:

Their ceiling…LOL! Interesting setup, isn’t it?

    It’s lunch time!

    =======================================

At the “Father’s Day Classic Car Show”.  They featured a large number of classic, antique and vintage automobiles. American cars from the 1900s to the 1960s. We surely had fun in exploring these pieces of history.

Of course, I had to stop by at Tiffany’s. That explains the blue bag I’m holding in the photo. *wink, wink*

    Have it your way!

    June 24, 2009

It’s only 92  outside but it feels like over a 100!  There’s no wind at all!  Not that I’m complaining….we don’t get a lot of these nice weather (okay, not-so-nice-weather) in Chicago.

No choice but to head out to the nearest fast food store to grab a bite to eat.  One of the nearest ones is Chipotle. So, Chipotle it is!

I ordered the usual – chicken bowl. I can’t believe they charge so much for a bowl of rice! It should have been called “bowl of rice”. I kid you not, there’s more rice than the other stuff!

I did not ask for the corn and the spicy salsa. But, I requested for guacamole. Well, of course, they charged me additional $1.80 for a tiny scoop of guaco! What a rip-off!

I guess, I shouldn’t be complaining. It tastes good anyway. Not authentic (well, we all know it’s a fake Mexican fast food), but it’s okay. The best of all, you can have it exactly your way. Just don’t get crazy! LOL!

    Flooding!

    June 23, 2009

Like I said in my previous post, the rain was non-stop last Friday.  As usual and as expected,  flooding in a number of roads close to the river.

The photos aren’t great though. The first & second photos were taken by my husband’s co-worker. The last one,  I took using my iPhone. It’s still amusing all the same!

Here’s what the parking lot looked like at my husband’s workplace. He’s in the 1st photo next to the lady with an umbrella.

Here’s the picture I took while driving home. It looked like an extension of the river itself!

    Graduation

    June 22, 2009

My daughter recently graduated from Kindergarten.  They didn’t get to wear the graduation gown though. But that’s okay, everyone looks so cute in their graduation cap anyway!

They sang a number of songs to parents and guests.

Her grades amazed us. Her reading skills is for 2nd grade above average! We hope and pray that she keeps her interest in studying.

There was a power outage last Friday due to strong wind and non-stop rain . Therefore, the server where this site resides was affected. The IP address was changed, it had to be reconfigured, etc.

Anyhow, the site is back! Enjoy!

    L.A. Candy

    June 19, 2009

Although I am not a big fan of Lauren Conrad’s (reality star – The Hills) new book “L.A. Candy”, I thought I should share this info to folks who are in Chicago or who will be in the city on that day.

According the radio news (and her own site), LC will have her book tour here at the Windy City on the following dates:

    June 20, 2009 at 2pm
    Anderson’s Bookshop (http://www.andersonsbookshop.com/)
    Naperville, Illinois

The book is about the life of reality-tv star 19-year-old Jane Roberts.  It sounds like a semi-autobiographical journey of the author. Just like her show, “The Hills” and “Laguna Beach”.

I admit, I watched “Laguna Beach”. LOL! It was a good show though!

    I never watched “The Hills”.

If other medium such as social networking site doesn’t give you your 15-minute of fame, then don’t be sad! You still have a chance! LOL!

Go to American Idol audition in the Windy City. That’s on Monday, June 22 for Season 9 . Registered hopefuls can begin lining up outside the United Center, 1901 W. Madison St., as early as 5 a.m. on that date.  I heard this on the radio today.
